Wall Ball Ideas

We hope you are all well and wanted to

share some wall ball inspiration videos that Coach Sharick(FHS Girls' Varisty) sent us.  Hopefully these will give you some fresh ideas for when you need fresh air!  These can be modified as you see fit for boys or girls.

I’m also putting a stickwork routine below if you’re in quarantine with a sibling! (keep social distance from others)

Keep working hard! Let us know what you’re up to! Post some videos.

Stay safe and be well !😊

Youth Lacrosse - program updates Nov 2019

We have so much to share with you as we move through the fall and into Thanksgiving!

  • Thank you for your patience as we worked out the quirks in our registration system.  We are back up and running!  Now, instead of being re-directed to Paypal, secure payments can be made within the registration system through EasyMerchant.     Early Bird registration (and the $25 credit) will end November 30th.
  • Indoor Lacrosse sessions and "Save the Date":
    • Grades 5 & 6 - Thursdays at Forekicks, Marlboro from 7-8 starting Thursday, January 9 - except week of Feb vacation
    • Grades 7 & 8 - Thursdays at Forekicks, Marlboro from 8-9 starting Thursday, January 9  - except week of Feb vacation
    • Boys Grades 3 & 4 - Wednesdays at Forekicks, Marlboro from 7-8 starting Wednesday, March 4
    • Girls Grades 3 & 4 - Fridays at Forekicks, Marlboro from 7-8 starting Friday, March 6
    • Boys & Girls grades k-2, Sundays at Suburban Athletic, Framingham starting Sunday, March 8 - times are to be determined based on team size at each age but either 12-1, 1-2 or 2-3
    • Sunday, March 1st - we are planning a fun "goalie" clinic at Suburban.  Times are to be determined but will be sometime between 12 & 3.   We have hired experienced goalies and coaches to staff it and look forward to pulling together a super fun, high energy program which will encourage any interested player to hop in and give it a try.
  • We also wanted to take this opportunity to share a few of the "goings on" within our FYL community this fall:
    • Many of our U15 girls participated in a pilot Founders League "Fall Ball' program where they played games against teams from 7 surrounding towns. For four weeks the teams met at Concord-Carlisle Regional High School to play 8v8 games. In this fun and competitive atmosphere, the Framingham team played very well and experienced lots of success! It was great to get a sneak peak of what these players can do together.
    • Some of our boys U13 and U15 players joined FYL Coaches AJ Mulvey and Mike Spellman to particpate in the "Cranberry Classic".  Here's what Coach AJ had to say - "Competing against Club programs is not easy. While we lost every game, we still had a great tournament! We played some solid lacrosse and had a lot of fun too.  Sure, there were a few times when kids resorted back to “hero” lacrosse - which is when one kid tries to dodge through everyone. But when we were able to calm down, we played lights out team lacrosse – tons of picking, cutting, great ball movement… and the defense & goal tending was lights out.   It is tough playing Club programs as a Town team, especially without the opportunity to practice an offense.   All in all, I was happy how both teams played. It can be humbling & motivating to play against Club programs… as a Town team.   PS: If you’re wondering, I think both teams need to work on “Fast Breaks” & “Subbing on Fly”… already thinking about what drills will address this during the winter indoor sessions! And EVERYONE needs to play more Wall Ball – Coaches included! Stickwork is never over…
  • Congratulations to two class of 2020 Framingham Youth Lacrosse Alumni Georgia Parker (Framingham High) and Quinn Richards (Belmont Hill) on signing their National Letters of Intent last week.  Georgia is heading to Merrimack College and Quinn to the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs.  We are so proud of these two kids and their opportunity to continue their lacrosse careers at the Division 1 level!  We also have to "shout out" Georgia and Quinn's parents - Margaret and Scott Parker and Mike and Pam Richards.  These parents were boots on the ground for our program - volunteering their time and talents coaching, team parenting and all around Board supporters.  Congratulations to the parents are in order too!

We hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving and look forward to seeing everyone at Indoor!

Link to order uniforms

Uniforms are reusable for year to year.   Also, girls have the choice between "shorts" or "skorts" - totally up to the player/parent!

Kindergarteners do not have to have a uniform but we've found most kids are very happy to have at least a uniform pinney with room to grow.

We have grown over the years into a program which we are all proud. We have always made our program about community first and in this day and age, we feel this is necessary. We involve all of our families and welcome feedback to improve your experience.

Having said this, our program does not run without you. First of all, thank you to all that have volunteered in the past and continue to do so. Second, "YOU DON'T HAVE TO KNOW ABOUT LACROSSE TO BE INVOLVED!" Our coaches get trained. And we pay for it. We are hiring experts to devise practice plans, so none of us will show up empty handed. So please volunteer. Personally, I've been doing this for 17 years at every level. I love it more that my kids are no longer in the program. We have many coaches who do this, so I am not alone. But if we are willing to do this when our kids are out of the program, there is no reason you can't take on a small role as coach, team parent, event coordinator, etc... Even something as small as name and number cards for the parents.

I can't wait to see you all at indoor and as always, call if you need anything.

Ken Cotton
