About Framingham Youth Lacrosse

About Framingham Youth Lacrosse

Framingham Youth Lacrosse (FYL) is a non-profit, incorporated organization, run by an all-volunteer board of directors.  The board consists of elected officers, coaches, and interested members of the community.

In 1992 brothers Gene and Vin Zanella started a youth lacrosse program in Framingham under the auspices of the town’s parks and recreation department.  Ten years later Framingham Youth Lacrosse was incorporated as a non profit organization much like other youth sports in Framingham (soccer, football, hockey…).  The incorporation has allowed the program to grow and give more opportunities to the children of Framingham.  FYL alumni have gone on to continue playing in high school (including players on the 2006 state champion FHS girls lacrosse team) and college (a few at the division 1 level including an all-American and a number at the division 3 level).

Mission

Framingham Youth Lacrosse encourages, cultivates, and develops the interest in and appreciation of the sport of lacrosse in the town of Framingham.  We strive to advance the growth of both boys and girls youth lacrosse by providing quality instruction and coaching of lacrosse fundamentals, skills, techniques, and strategies.  We afford a safe and fun environment and emphasize the development of self-esteem, good sportsmanship, fitness, achievement, and affirmative values that team sports provide.  Through this positive and fun experience, we hope to participate in, cooperate with, and expose Framingham youth to other competitive organizations throughout the commonwealth.

Q: What does registration pay for?

A: Registration fees cover:

  • Affiliation dues (MBYLL, MBGLL, US Lacrosse membership which includes accident insurance)
  • Referees
  • Uniforms
  • Game / practice equipment (goals, balls, goalie equipment, long shafts for u13 boys, first aid kits)
  • Coaches certification and education programs
  • Indoor practice time (early in the season when parks and recreation will not allow us onto the fields)
  • Field time (parks & recreation department fee)
  • Jamboree fees
  • Team outings (subsidized by the fundraisers)
  • Hall rental for parent meeting
  • Scholarships
  • Fiscally prudent reserves

What you get for free:

  • The efforts of the board of directors and volunteers
  • Coaching, instruction, enthusiasm for your children
  • Healthy, happy kids with a wholesome activity a few hours a week

All of the above is primarily funded by your child’s registration fee.  Our annual fundraiser, and business sponsorship help to supplement registration fees, but the majority of the funds come from registration.  Some of the above costs go up every year, but FYL works to stabilize costs over time.  This year we are making a renewed effort to target and solicit Framingham businesses for additional support; and as always the success of our annual fundraiser depends on you.
